dance journeys 2019
In Spring 2019, Renaud Wiser collaborated with Malgorzata Dzierzon as creative directors on English National Ballet annual flagship engagement project, Dance Journeys. Dance Journeys unites young people from west London secondary schools, and musicians from the Royal College of Music Junior Department, through an ambitious, large-scale performance at Sadler’s Wells. The new creation, Uncharted, celebrates and explores female agility, strength and imagination. This work delves into the forgotten stories, inspiring tales and pioneering pursuits of female explorers: unstoppable sailors, courageous mountaineers, tenacious astronauts and imaginative writers. Evoking a strong sense of community and strength, the dancers take their audience on a journey of perseverance and resilience, all relevant to the lives of this generation today. “To me, exploring means learning new things, searching for wonders unknown to you and discovering paths to venture on.” Dancer, Friern Barnet School. Through a process of creative research, choreographic exploration and collaboration, these young dancers have created a bold new dance work under the expertise of our choreographic team. With costumes by Louie Whitemore and lighting by Zeynep Kepekli, this year’s production features a captivating score composed by Aleksandra Vrebalov, recorded by the orchestra of talented young musicians from the Royal College of Music Junior Department.
